TEL Highlights 1986 - 2003
1986--Roy led a group of four men into China the summer of 1989 and one of them stayed behind and eventually became TEL's first staff in China and married Maria. They have several children and run an elementary school for expatriot non-Chinese or overseas Chinese in Guangzhou, China now.
1987--Bruce Morrison moves to China.
1988--More evangelism. Don Klein moves from India to China.
1989--First TEL men's staff conference in Singapore. Valori Hughes and Lenny Robertson move to Guangzhou as TEL missionaries.
1990 to 2000--TEL continues work in China, the Philippines, India, Indonesia and Hong Kong. Hong Kong became a part of China in 1997 and TEL opened a new ministry in Viet Nam with two missionaries, one from Singapore and the other from the US. Keith Kline heads the China Minority work until he resigns and then a Canadian took over the multi-nationality team.
A China minority tribe that has never been known to hear the Gospel finally is reached, with several converts. Roy helps with Billy Graham crusades in Hong Kong and Japan, where he trains the counsellors in follow-up and helps coordinate follow-up.
The TEL work in Moscow, Russia, closes down when the team there returned to the US for seminary.
2001--More evangelism. Lee Robertson is voted team director in Indonesia and Don Klein moves there with his family from China.
2002--Bruce Morrison is stabbed to death in Wuhan before a church meeting and is survived by his wife, Valori (Hughes) Morrison and six daughters. Lenny Robertson, Roy's second son, marries TJ Walker on furlough after continuing the TEL work in Guiyang with coworker Sean Zhang. Roy trains village evangelist in India. Mike Tripp heads a Gospel team in the Philippines.
2003--Roy and his wife Phyllis return to India to help train more village evangelists, helped by Dr Jerry Strader, chairman to the TEL board whose wife went to be with the Lord several years ago. The Tripp family adopt a child from Kazakhstan.
